It’s been a long time coming.
But it’s finally time.
I’ve always had a love for photography. I spent countless days “on photo” with my mom as a kid, and I was always “borrowing” her camera on family vacations. I played around with a Polaroid and digital camera in my early 20s. But when I got a vintage film camera for Christmas in 2019, it all finally clicked.
Since then, I’ve carried it around with me everywhere. Photography makes me more observant of the world around me. I notice small things I ordinarily wouldn’t, because they would make a beautiful photograph. And film in particular has particularly captivated me.
With 35mm, you have to be much more exacting and disciplined when framing your photos. You only have 36 per roll, and they cost about $1 each, so you have to choose your shots carefully. And even more so, I love that you don’t get the immediate feedback we’re all so used to in this era of the iPhone. You don’t get to see any of the photos until they’re developed, so there’s an element of surprise.
I’ve been working on my website and print shop on the side for over a year, but it’s always been on the backburner. I’ve been in a phase of uncertainty and change lately, and I decided it was finally time to just go for it.
The Furbs on Film shop finally launches tomorrow, December 1, and I’m so so happy that my art will be displayed in people’s homes.
And if you’ve made it this far, thank you. I’m so glad you’re here.
